As I stare at this blank screen . . .

Ask anyone who knows me, and they will confirm that I not only have something to say but will at times use LOTS of words as I bounce from idea to idea, connecting thoughts, ideas, and content. I love to write; I enjoy editing; and the challenge of extemporaneous speaking gets my energy level way up.
Words come easily to me . . . most of the time.

However, even I have times where I have what is known as “Writer’s Block.” Like today, I have a deadline and I know I need to write something, but my Muse is not returning my calls. Inspiration sometimes hides behind the corner, or maybe it’s behind the couch . . .

Wherever inspiration may be lurking today, giggling over the prank it’s playing, I think about the conversations I’ve had over the years with others about Writer’s Block. They ask me for suggestions about how to get past it, what to do about it, and if it can be prevented.

While it cannot be prevented, for even the most loquacious of us can be rendered speechless, the best advice I have for Writer’s Block is this: write.

Yes, it is that easy. Sit down and write SOMETHING, anything – even if it’s the grocery list. The act of writing itself is the remedy to Writer’s Block. By allowing your fingers to grab the pen and paper or tap away on the keyboard, you are acting, and it is through forward momentum that we accomplish anything.

The next time your Muse is hiding behind the couch or out drinking with its friends, remember this: inspiration is found inside yourself. The world around you is full of information that can spark an idea.
